  • Currently I am..

Waiting for my re-timed Jet* flight out of Singapore. It was delayed for 2 hours...... -_-"

This sucks because I only had 2 hours of sleep the night before and was at the airport at 6 am this morning...

But the Internet at the airport is good! Playing my Countrystory on Facebook had never been a more pleasant experience. hee..

Hope this will be a good respite albeit a short one.

I'm going to the land of smiles! Catcha you 12 Oct 09!

  • Stuck

ps: remember the song "stuck"? ;p

Stuck in a quagmire, is resistance futile?

Feeling super sian these days. Work and life and me.

Someone should really knock me out at 11 pm everyday.

I think I should read up. Literary pieces are good for the soul.

Here are two issues that captured my attention:

    Speaking good and bad English.

Really, I think we should be brushed up. We should no longer be proud that we are a bi-lingual generation because we are not. I am the first to admit that when it comes to switching between English and Mandarin, I cannot do so. I have always thought that there isn't a problem. Yet, these days when I am forced to speak in complete Mandarin sentences (no English nor Hokkien allowed!), I felt as if there are marbles stuck in my mouth. It's not even trying to speak with profound words and long sentences to begin with. How do you translate carbohydrates and click (mouse)?

The same goes for English. Our broken-rojak-English has become the norm that it takes a while to adjust when you try to speak in complete and grammatically correct english. What's more difficult, using the right words and avoiding verbosity. I am quite grateful for the occasional mails from the Dy who tried to correct our 'powerful england'. Things like

    1. Is it with "regards to this matter" or "with regard to this matter"?

    2. Is it "irregardless of the circumstances" or "regardless of the circumstances"?

    3. Is it " "please revert asap" or "please reply asap"? ***

Laying claims to non-existent entity ownership

WT?! How can you even say such silly things? It goes to show ignorance, incompetency and a lack of EQ. We don't even need to protest. The reaction are from your own people is evidence of the stupidity of your statement. Enough said.

Today's a cold, cold day. I had a "wild wild wet" morning at the zoo with the sc girls. At times, I really wished I could be like some of the the animals, huddled and asleep to keep out the rain. Of course, I will be slightly better off with a blanket. hee..

    Cheerios!

I just want to cuddle like that.. Warm fuzzy feeling is great!

Finally, this is quite amazing. A fearless rat stared down a mighty leopard–and the leopard blinked. While the puzzled cat sniffed and watched, the rat helped itself to the leopard’s steak dinner. Be sure to read the full story at the Mail Online. [quoted from cuteoverload.com]

    1. Is it with "regards to this matter" or "with regard to this matter"?

No matter how much regards you have for that matter, there is no such thing as with regards to xxx. It is with regard to; with reference to or send my regards to her.

    2. Is it "irregardless of the circumstances" or "regardless of the circumstances"?

Irregardless is not a word in the first place.

    3. Is it "please revert asap" or "please reply asap"?

Revert means to go back to the original. You cannot ask people to revert. You will be asking them to go back to their original state i.e. chimps?? So just a simple reply will suffice.

  • Who says love has to make sense..

Just the other day, I received good and bad news on the same day. The news from two different good friends affected me much. I feel for both of them. That means a rollercoaster of sorts.

Congrats to YS, finally! I think you ran one of the longest courtship race I know. Almost 10 years together.  Happy!

    cat-dog-love

Then, on the same night, she (T) chatted with me and informed me of her break-up. I was taken back because she once told me he would be the one she will marry. It struck me because when she told me that the other time, I was disillusioned with the romantic idea of finding "the one" you want to marry. Yet hearing that from her brought some faith. That night, it made me consider flying halfway across the globe to accompany my friend. I hope, by year end, I can... ($$ + Time)

    so till then my dear,

Then, recently, I realised from FB that one of my juniors also had a marriage proposal. Congrats M! :) Wow... everybody's doing the "getting hitched!" Maybe it was the movie ... (The proposal?)

Lots of people got hitched on 09.09.09. Nice to remember ah! The other time with so many nines is on 09.09.99 but we were underaged then. haa! I used to think getting married on 20.09.2009 is not too bad too! Then someone informed me that we have only until 2012 to have these (symmetrical)dates because there is no 20.13(!).2013 Hmmmmmmm... anyway, random thoughts.

Some nice short clips to see..

This is one of the 2009 Cannes Lions winners!

  • Changes

I had wanted to blog for the past couple of days. As I spend almost the entire night surfing for new themes (see the new xanga theme! pretty cool with mobile modules), I am pretty much exhausted and lacked the energy to say what I wanted to say. Tmr hopefully!! In essence, I plan to reinvent my blog with this tagline ~ All that is essential is invisible.

3 things that made me happy / smile today

    a. Waking up and knowing my parents are with me. Mum making breakfast while I rushed for work.

    b. Being helped by future colleague when I was late for a meeting today

    c. Receiving a smile in return and (being told I was not a disturbance at work.)

    d. Gmail chatting with Teh Ni, receving text msg from GFs.

    e. Arriving at work within 25 mins. It's a miracle!

    f. Figuring out what's wrong with a program (wrong file path!)

    g. Seeing flowers in bloom, pretty ones in white and pink along the road divider

    h. Dining with NPY

    i. Receving a hug from Ky

    (Oops I cant count!)

3 things that made me frown ( I will try to remove these from memory)

    a. Spoilt alarm

    b. Seeing the anguish of my parents caused by my brother. It's beyond being sad. *

    c. Two adults shagging in a public park. Come on! It was only 9.30 pm~!! and there are young kids...

    d. Bloated face in the morning (OMG...) because I drank fluids the night before.

    e. Impatient Honda driver who honked at me.

I have 3 things that made me smile and frown the previous day too... Later later...

*It's painful when my mum said she's lonely and went out in the evening to get dinner. It's even more painful when my dad is not saying anything but you can sense the disappointment and sadness. Tearing me apart. Why cant you return home during the weekends?

  • I will survive

For the benefit of one reader, who had since bookmarked this page under his list titled "extreme boredom", I shall attempt more fruitful posts.

    One day,

I will muster enough courage to leave all baggage behind.

I shall leave the routine -like life and embark on another journey.

I shall leave everything, friends and family behind.

Find me at one of the mountains.

    To teach and to nurture;

    To give and to love.

    Alternatively.

Find me in a country, where no one knows me.

I think it's tempting, the idea of starting life anew, from scratch.

Yet, the thought of being all alone in a foreign country is painful, especially at night.

I find myself craving for lots of hugs and company when night comes.

    ***

On Saturday, we had a good lunch and company. Thereafter, we conducted a mass shopping from Paragon to Takshimaya. That's what friends are made of.

    ***

One colleague ever said, he wanted, if he ever had the opportunity, to just pack his passport and take the first plane out of Changi Airport, regardless of the destination. Enticing.

    ***

I love the networks of networks, for its shopping, movies, videos and best of all, comics.....

    Pure indulgence.

    ***

Bade an old friend goodbye last week. It has been with me for 20 years.

    ***

Had dinner with Oscar and LW last friday. We had this humongous fish head for dinner. We dubbed it "Dinosaurs" fish, not only for its size, but for its sturdy bones! [see photo after this]. I shall not eat fish for the next few weeks. Oh wait, I think I had fried fish earlier. hmmm...
